Hey,

I haven't been updating DA much at all, but I do have a new website that I just put up yesterday!

Check it out if you have a chance, and let me know what you think.

Hi! I've been pretty busy with school, but here's some updates... Um, I've declared my majors! I'm a double major in religious studies and fine art photography! Also, this summer I have an internship at this photo studio in center city Philly [link] !

Hope everyone's doing well. :-)

I have been busy lately, and will probably be even busier once school starts up again, so I probably won't be on this site very frequently. Just so people know.

Hey everyone. I haven't been on DA much since I've been trying to concentrate on homework and all of the other crazy stuff here at UPenn. So I haven't been and won't be commenting that much, but thanks very much everyone who's wished me well with college and Photography class!

For those who asked/would like to know:

My digital camera is a Sony-Cybershot DSC-P93: 5 mega pixels, with f2.and f5.6 (not many options there), and shutterspeeds from several seconds to 1000.

My film camera that I'm slowly learning to use is a Vivitar V2000 35mm SLR with apertures 3.5 to 22 and shutterspeeds B to 2000.

There are other specs I could say too, but I wouldn't understand them. ^^;

So let's see... college is fun, I guess. Classes are hard. Photography is good but very frustrating too. Very very. And time consuming. And again, very frustrating. I've spent/wasted many entire afternoons in the lab. And ruined a lot of film. And wasted a lot of photopaper. I don't think I like film photography much, actually. Because I'm bad at it, probably. But I'm learning a lot of important things. And the prof is really nice.

Okay, I might submit some photos soon, digital and film, or I might do homework. We'll see.

Computer Screens

Mon Aug 22, 2005, 6:43 PM
Recently I've been using my laptop (which I got for school and is very cool by the way) rather than the computer I've been using for the past few years. What I've come to realize is that the screen on my other comp is really dark and has low contrast. And this presents a problem... because pictures like [link] and [link] look great on my other comp-- the black is a dark, solid, black-- but on my laptop screen they look horrible, with splotches of different color greys/blacks... it looks really REALLY horrible. For example, in Sunlight and Shadow 3 on my other comp, the black of the butterfly is the same as the dark black of the shadows, but on my laptop the black of the shadows is darker than the grey of the butterfly wing, and spots where I edited are really obvious and splotchy.

Hmm... what to do about this. Because the photos looked very nice on the other comp., but I don't know how to recreate that look on my laptop's new screen. And when I PRINT the photos, who knows how they'll turn out... they always look different than what's on the screen. That's the problem with digital art, I guess. But I still don't know how I'm going to fix my photos with a lot of black in them, becuase they really do look horrendous on brighter screens.

Any advice on this? I'll work on it some tomorrow.
